PRISON ECONOMY Giudicabili is a prison economy project created to offer job opportunities, empowerment and redemption to people experiencing criminal execution. The valorisation of the skills and aptitudes of each individual, respect for each story, team work, continuous training, together with quality raw materials, are the ingredients of the Giudicabili, sweet and savory products made within the prison of Terni. HOW WE GOT THIS FAR The GIUDICABILI project comes to life in 2022 with the reactivation of the oven located inside the Terni prison. The social promotion associations Demetra and Arciragazzi gli Anni in Tasca, with the contribution of the CARIT Foundation, in addition to rearranging premises and facilities, have trained a group of prisoners in the art of bread-making and pastry-making with the aim of creating a production line of prison economy. In 2022, 14 inmates were trained, of these, 5 high security inmates are now working permanently in the project. From this path were born the Giudicabili sweet and savory products made by the inmates of the Terni prison. The name refers to a certain category of defendants, for whom criminal proceedings have been initiated and who are awaiting first instance judgement, but in this case the only judgment expected is that of the palate of those who taste them. WHY WE DO IT The Giudicabili project pursues the following objectives: • Contribute incisively to the social and working inclusion of prisoners by providing them with employment and training and skills that can be used after detention and by encouraging personal autonomy, the assumption of responsibility and active participation • Shorten the distances between prison and civil society, between "outside" and "inside", through communication and awareness-raising activities and relationship and integration paths, so that these two worlds are closer, more comprehensive, more systemic. • Trigger the participation of everyone in building a welcoming community, capable of processing conflicts and building restorative relationships
